I had saved pieces and parts over the years of being in the antiques biz. You know porch posts here, a zinc dormer there, pieces of tin ceiling tile, architectural fabulosities. A lot of them were used as decor in my shop which I closed in 2008, and I saved all of them without any real plan. Until... I got the inspiration for a GARDEN COTTAGE that I could have home sales in. So I used the COTTAGE as a mini shop and sometimes just as storage. What a waste... After last fall I had decided to end the home sales and thought that it was too darn awesome to use as storage. So I set my sites on bringing it to be as a little place that I can sit in and enjoy just for me. The ceiling is all hand~pieced rusty crusty tin ceiling tiles, and the floor is hand~painted by moi to look like stone.
I hope you love it...

Finally!! It turned out fantastic! There are too many wonderful things to name them all, but a couple of my favorites are the Paris chair and the mirrors...love'm!

Wow, what's not to love! Everything looks great. I've got a ceilings like yours in my house in my kitchen and one of the bathrooms. I love them and they are great to cover up where walls have been ripped out. Okay, now I'm going back to stare at your photos some more.

Okay, I'm speechless, and that's saying alot for me because I never shutup. It's settled...I'm making my husband built my potting shed this summer, no exceptions!

ReplyDeleteI am not sure if you need any heat in your little house in Fl. but if you do I can suggest something I used to make my antique mantle appear more like a real fireplace and give off actual heat on those cool days:
Home Depot has an electric stove fireplace that has a flame and actually puts out heat which goes well in a fireplace scene. Cost less than 300. I did that here at my store in this old 1880 building. Customers love standing next to it on cooler days.
You did a fantastic job in making that little cottage your special place to escape.
